Stormwater harvesting is the collection, storage and reuse of the flows from urban areas collected in stormwater pipes, channels and lakes.
Stormwater is generated by rainfall events through urban areas and usually comes in large volumes over short time periods. Therefore, we need the ability to transfer or divert and store/treat this water until it is required for use generally between rainfalls in dry periods.
Ponds and lakes can be used for the storage of stormwater, but if the water levels vary too much, it can have significant impacts on their amenity and aesthetics for the community, fauna and flora. So tanks are the best method of storing this water.
Typical places can be underground or above, in sporting fields or under buildings.
Because the stormwater is generally of low quality with a high level of pollutants, it should only be used for irrigation and non potable uses and have secure backflow prevention devices in place.
Findings on a study of stormwater projects across the Sydney region noted that the average cost of treated stormwater was $10 per kilolitre (with a range from $0.52 to $42). Cost is dependent on factors such as existing storage facilities, proximity of irrigation areas and the size of the scheme.
We are Maintek Freshwater Pty Ltd. A young and enthusiastic team of rainwater tank installers based on the northern beaches of Sydney, operating since early 2005.

We have the ability to undertake a variety of trade works associated with your new rainwater tank including concreting, carpentry, roofing and gutters, leaf guards, pumps and solar power installations. We also include all associated contractors within our quotation so you can rest assured everyone from plumbers, electricians, landscapers, irrigation and even excavators are organised for you.
We have a diverse range of tanks including above and underground, round or slim, poly or colourbond tanks, concrete tanks, stainless steel, bladder/rectangular tanks or we can custom make one for you. Check out our online brochure for full range of tanks.
We supply and install a comprehensive range of tanks from 200lt to 200 000lts for residential, commercial and industrial applications. We supply to homeowners, builders, schools, universities and retirement villages with total rainwater management solutions and ensure they are effectively collecting and storing clean rainwater for uses in a multitude of applications such as flushing toilets, washing clothes, garden irrigation, topping up pools and cars & boat washing.
Dam levels have recently increased but restrictions are still in force and with the government planning annual increases in water rates over the next 3 to 4 years. So installing tanks will remain a benefit to your pocket for years to come.
The bottom line is that installing a rainwater tank will help you be more considerate to the environment and get your lifestyle back in balance.

For Tradies
At Maintek we know how difficult it is to arrange all the equipment and materials for a project since we carry all the products ourselves. That is why our tradies pack has been so well received. Maintek offers all our trade clients the ability to specify a connection pack to accompany the tank and pump delivery. Thus saving you time arranging the plumbing, filtration, signage and leaf screens. All packs are packed to your request. We can include as little as the filters and leaf screens, or include the pipes, fittings and even the pipe saddles and nylon plugs. Tanked Australia carries all the material to make it a truly one-stop-shop.
